About John Montgomery:

Born in Sydney, John moved to the Central Coast in 1955. His family name is well and truly established on the Coast, and as a boy his parents owned and managed the old Point Clare general store, at an age when he attended the new and nearby Point Clare Primary. Later he went to the old Gosford High.

His interest in bottle collecting and local history started as a young adult and grew from there.

His many accomplishments as a collector include co-founding the former, and very successful, Central Coast Bottle Club, and then leading that club as president/newsletter editor for more than five years. He has also contributed articles to the national magazine. His tenacity and outstanding dedication as a researcher has led him to such out-of-the-way places as Sydney's Mitchell State Archives (where he talked his way into their most protected archival rooms), and to Sydney cemeteries to photograph grave sites of early NSW cordial makers.

Although his collection had grown over the years to a very substantial size and breadth, he has sold off many, but keeps all of the Central Coast bottles along with his favourite examples of Sydney's "hotel bottles".

He lives near where he grew up, with his wife, Coral. They have three sons, now grown up. John and Coral run a successful ceramic tiling business in the local area.
